The situation
Deleting a chat in ChatGPT is permanent. OpenAI's own community threads on recovering deleted conversations end the same way every time: there is nothing to recover, and support cannot help. The same is true across most of these products.
Temporary chats are a sharper version of the same thing. They are designed not to be stored, which is often exactly what you want, right up to the moment the answer turns out to be worth keeping. Then there is nothing to go back to.
The slower losses are easier to miss. Threads fall off the bottom of a sidebar. A model gets retired and its conversations become harder to reach. A plan lapses. A clean-up takes out more than you meant.
The usual advice is to request a data export, which means noticing in advance, waiting for a zip file, and doing it again next month. It works, and almost nobody keeps it up.

Whole thread when the whole thread matters, one response when it does not. Both end up in the same archive.

Deleting is not the only way to lose something
Most conversations are not lost by deletion. They are lost by volume. Six hundred threads with model-generated titles, no folders worth the name, and search that only sometimes finds the phrase you remember.
Saving deliberately fixes both problems at once. What you kept was worth keeping, it has your own description on it, and there are a hundred of them rather than six hundred.
Temporary chats are the interesting case
Temporary mode exists for good reasons and people use it for real work. The gap is that the decision to not store the conversation is made at the start, before you know whether the answer is any good.
Saving an entry from a temporary chat resolves that. The platform still stores nothing. What you chose to keep is in your archive, and the rest of the conversation goes away as intended.
What local-first actually means here
Entries live in the browser's own storage on your machine. Nothing is sent to a Savelore server as part of saving, and there is no account required to start.
Sync, publishing a page and Pro all involve an account, and each one is opt-in on its own. Signing in to publish an entry does not turn on cloud sync.
The honest limits
Local storage lives in your browser profile. Clear the profile, lose the machine, or reinstall the browser without exporting first, and the archive goes with it. Cloud sync and JSON export both exist for that reason.
Savelore also cannot recover anything you have already deleted from a platform. Nothing can. It only keeps what you saved while it was still there.

Can Savelore recover a chat I already deleted?
No. Once a platform deletes a conversation it is gone, and no extension can bring it back. Savelore keeps what you saved before that point.
Can I really save a temporary chat?
Yes. Save it as an entry before you close the tab. The platform still keeps no record of the conversation.
Where are my entries stored?
On your own machine, in the browser's storage, by default. Cloud sync is optional and off until you turn it on.
What happens if I uninstall the extension?

Do I need an account?
