JSON import

Import a JSON backup to restore your saves or migrate between accounts.

Pro users can import a JSON file to restore saves from a backup or migrate from one account or browser profile to another.

What you can import

The import accepts JSON files exported from Savelore. Each item in the JSON file becomes a save in your library, with all metadata preserved:

  • Response text
  • Source platform
  • Tags
  • Folder assignment
  • Original conversation URL
  • Date saved

How to import

  1. Open the Savelore sidebar
  2. Go to SettingsImport
  3. Click Choose file and select your .json file
  4. Review the import summary (number of items, any conflicts)
  5. Click Import

Import runs in the background. Large imports (hundreds of items) may take a minute.

Handling duplicates

If your JSON contains saves that already exist in your library (matched by source URL and timestamp), Savelore will:

  • Skip duplicates by default
  • Overwrite if you select "Replace existing" in the import options

Migrating to a new account

If you're moving from one Savelore account to another:

  1. On the old account: SettingsExportJSONExport all
  2. Sign out and sign in to the new account
  3. SettingsImport → select the file → Import

All your saves will be in the new account. Note that cloud sync must be enabled on the new account for the import to persist to the cloud.

Migrating to a new browser profile

If you're not using cloud sync and need to move saves to a new Chrome profile:

  1. Export as JSON from the old profile
  2. Install Savelore in the new profile
  3. Import the JSON file
Important

Import is irreversible in the sense that imported items become permanent saves. If you import accidentally, you'll need to manually delete the unwanted saves — there's no "undo import" function.
